STILL BECOMING
(On Going, Personal Project)
Without ever naming it, this work began quietly.
Nine women — friends since adolescence, sisters by choice — each crossing, in her own time, the threshold of forty-five.
Along the way, time became visible.
Not dramatically, but in its accumulation: bodies shifting, children growing, parents aging, distances stretching.
We realized we were growing older together.
This is a deeply personal exploration of womanhood in adulthood — of motherhood, friendship, desire; of fatigue, strength, and tenderness. Of who we are when life is already in motion, when identities are layered, and love carries weight and history. The title comes from this simple truth: we are still becoming who we are.
Because we live far apart, we made a promise: once a year, for as long as we can, we will gather.
Time set aside for ourselves.
This work will evolve, though I cannot yet say how. Perhaps it will grow quieter, more stripped back, more honest. What I do know is that I look forward to the decades ahead — growing, and witnessing one another, together.
At times, reality steps into the frame. A teenage son appears, then stays — becoming part of the act of posing,
or simply of witnessing.
This work is ongoing. It is not really a project at all — it is life.
And it is dedicated to Alex, Ana, Maraya, Tere, Monica, Gadea, Gabriela, Sole — and me.
