Still Becoming
(On Going, Personal Project)

We began this work a couple of years ago, almost without naming it.
A group of women — friends, sisters by choice — all crossing the threshold of forty.

Somewhere along that line, time became visible.
Not in a dramatic way, but in the accumulation of days: bodies changing, children growing, parents aging, distances stretching between us. We realized we are growing older together.

This is a deeply personal project about womanhood in adulthood — about motherhood, friendship, desire, fatigue, strength, and tenderness. About who we are when life is already in motion, when identities are layered, and when love has weight and history.

The title of the project comes from that very realization: we are still becoming who we are.

Because we live far from one another, we made a commitment: at least once a year, for as long as we can, we will gather. Time carved out just for us. No roles, no expectations. Friends who are sisters.

This project will evolve — I’m sure of that — though I’m not entirely sure how.
Perhaps there will be less posing. Perhaps less need to be proud of our beauty, or simply a deeper way of embracing it. Maybe it will become quieter, more stripped back, more honest. What I do know is that I’m looking forward to the decades ahead, hopefully, growing and witnessing one another together.

Sometimes, reality insists on joining us. A teenage son appears at the edge of the frame, then steps inside it — and, unexpectedly, becomes part of the act of witnessing, even helping to document the last moments.

This project is ongoing. It grows as we do. It is dedicated to:
Gadea, Ana, Maraya, Tere, Monica, Sole, Alex — and me.
